Check the above paper, it will give you some idea of what is done. This is the sort of thing that a Petrophysicist or Geologist would be doing.

Keep in mind that sometimes you may not have the time, data, tools or experience to do some of the things you will read about!!! The solution then is to do the simple things first and start from there before going on to more complicated things.

Also, at times a given method may sound very clever and promissing but it will not work in your case. The reasons could be problems with data , lack of data or the fact that the methods works best in certain cases and not on general.

You always need to ask yourself where is the data from, who provided it, and the year it was obtained as technology changed.

This is a frequent issue with logs which are a bases for your reservoir properties. Logging tools are not standardized in how they perform, Schlumberger tools and tools from a Russian logging company will not perform the same way. Even with core data you could have problems as they go to some lab and they DO SOMETHING (your hope IS that they did it right!!!!). Hope you guys see how this gets complicated. But in the end we need to act!!!!

    Start simple!!!!!

  6. Thank you, Shakespear very good paper.
I had good results with permeability predictions with neural network between core data and log data.
I trained with wells with core and log data and then apply in wells with only log data.
    This is not easy.

    bye

If you would believe it, I did the very same work when I started working for a major oil company. The problem I had was that if the facies/rock types changed the method went out the window. Unless logs/log interpretation in the uncored well had this data. We wanted to apply this to old wells (20 yrs or more)
