A completely revised edition of the Flow Handbook, a hands-on guide to industrial flow metering, is now available from Endress+Hauser free-of-charge. This 456-page, hardbound handbook gives readers a more in-depth understanding of the way modern flowmeters actually work. This new handbook is valued at $110 and includes an Endress+Hauser bookmark. The comprehensive, application-oriented handbook presents all the techniques used in the field. All relevant principles of flow metering, irrespective of whether or not Endress+Hauser manufactures meters based on a given principle, are covered in the new handbook.

The initial overview of the book introduces the whole bandwidth of flow metering in general terms - including history and engineering - and is followed by sections specific to the principles of the individual methods of metering. Pure theory is discussed only when absolutely necessary to reinforce concepts and principles. Instead, Endress+Hauser has focused on basics so that readers will be able to appreciate why an instrument was developed, what strengths it has, and how its usefulness is limited.

The real core of the book is the set of chapters devoted to the various principles of measurement employed in flow metering and particular applications. Advantages and disadvantages are discussed in detail, and each chapter concludes by answering frequently asked questions. In addition to the measurement chapters, sections on the following topics include: installation; rules, regulations, and approval legislation; how to select flowmeters; and installation. The handbook closes with a discussion of mainstream communication standards and calibration. The 35-page appendix includes an extensive list of tables and nomograms for referance and practical work.

The number of flowmeters sold each year is in the millions, and production processes are becoming more sophisticated, while logistical processes increasingly automated. Flowmeters will continue to play a key role in the complex world in the 21st century. These devices are crucial to environmental protection and quality control, process management, and the exchange of goods.

The Flow Handbook is a product of two years of planning and hard work on the part of a committed team of specialists, and it covers an entire field of flowmeters and flow metering. The book is dedicated to the founder of Endress+Hauser, Dr. Georg Endress. It was he who formulated the goal toward which we all strive here at Endress+Hauser, namely "to provide for our customers throughout the world, metering and automation technology to the very highest standards of quality."
