    Upscaling techniques - renormalization/half cell

    Hi there,
    does anyone know the idea behind half cell upscaling? Why do we need it, how does it work? I think it is also known as "renormalization".. for calculating transmissibilities.
    I would really appreciate any help here, as I am new to this.
