    Thanks

Initial quantitative risk assessment of agl's proposed tarrone power station, vic

    Yes, there is!

    From Wikipedia and CCPS:

The nuclear, aerospace, oil, rail and military industries have a long history of dealing with risk assessment. Also, medical, hospital, and food industries control risks and perform risk assessments on a continual basis.

Methods for assessment of risk may differ between industries and whether it pertains to general financial decisions or environmental, ecological, or public health risk assessment.

The chemical process industry (CPI), has developed a format and scope for quantitative risk analysis distinct from that used elsewhere (e.g., in the nuclear industry's Probabilistic Risk Assessments). To emphasize the distinction, CCPS has used the term "Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Analysis" (CPQRA) for the methodology covered in the book "Guidelines for Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Analysis."

The CPQRA methodology has evolved since the early 1980s from its roots in the nuclear, aerospace and electronics industries. The most extensive use of probabilistic risk analysis (PRA) has been in the nuclear industry. Procedures for PRA have been defined in the "PRA Procedures Guide" (NUREG, 1983) and the "Probabilistic Safety Analysis Procedures Guide" (NUREG, 1985). CPQRA is a probabilistic methodology that is based on the NUREG procedures.

In the context of public health, risk assessment is the process of quantifying the probability of a harmful effect to individuals or populations from certain human activities. In most countries the use of specific chemicals or the operations of specific facilities (e.g. power plants, manufacturing plants) is not allowed unless it can be shown that they do not increase the risk of death or illness above a specific threshold.

So we see here that power plants perform risk assessment. For nuclear power plants, the NUREG procedures (and others) will be consulted.

I guess that you are interested in power plants burning hydrocarbons (gas and/or liquid), hydrocarbons we supply them. And I say "we" because members and guests interested in this forum contribute one way or the other to supply fuels for power generation.

At this moment, the question might be "what are the differences between the CPQRA methodology and the one used for power plants burning hydrocarbons?." And if I were you, I´d like to have a model.

Well, I just searched Internet and found:
