Thread: Sour Water system

  1. Sour Water system

    Dear all ,

What is the specification for the phenolic and non-phenolic sour water or how it is classified?

what will be the approx. ph n h2s content , TDS level and phenol level in the phenolic and non-phenolic sour water ?

Is phenols removed in sour water stripper ? If not then where it is removed ?

please let me know the answer which will be really very useful for me ...
    thanks in advance .

  3. phenolic comes from secondary -----ing processes or non-phenolic from hydrotreatinng processes. Sour water is classified based on the amount of H2S and NH3 in the water and other minor items. The sour water stripper cannot remove phenols ( they are removed in biological treatment ). One way to remove phenol is to reabsorb them in crude oil. Hence stripped sourwater with phenols is used for desalting purpose in crude units. The intimate mixing with the oil helps to transfer phenols from water to the oil
