Thread: Fundamental doubt

  1. Fundamental doubt

I am working in ARU and SWS plant ...
Both the plant having a column which has reboilers , reflux , overhead condensers and reflux drum ...

In ARU , ARU column is called as regenerator and in SWS , SWS column is called as Stripper whereas both resembles like a column which is in CDU ( i mean same reboilers, reflux etc ...... )

Is there any specific reason that SWS column is called as stripper and ARU column is called as regenerator.

Though it sounds very silly i would like to get it clear .. Please let me know ... thanks in advance ........

The column is acting in the same way as your CDU coulmns. For example in case of distillation column, differential boiling point derives the extraction; in the same way in stripper steam is used for creation of difference in volatile media

  5. As you might observe both perform the same unit operations.

But based on the application they are named differently. A stripper is employed to strip off light ends from a mixture. A regenerator is used to regenerate a solution, to obtain a solvent. A regenerator is paired with an absorber, which helps to dissolve the solute (H2S) in the solvent (Amine).
