Thread: Vapor fraction

  1. Question Vapor fraction

    Hello,
How i can do to know the state of one stream ?

For example i want to know if a stream is in the dew point, if i am reading the vapor fraction in the properties is 1, i can't know if my stream is in the dew point or in superheated vapor state, how i can decide between those cases ?

    Thanks in advance.

Try to take a look at the attached chart, it's called Molier Diagram, this chart is available with T, P, H, S, you may find it online. This is would enable you to decide the properties of water and steam at any condition. You can even deign steam boilers, turbins without a need for a computer.[

Yes, but if i have a mixture of alcanes...
There is no means in Hysys, to know the state of a product fluid ?
    I can't deduce this from properties, when i find (T,P,vapor fration=0), i can't know if is it a sub-cooled liquid or bubble point ?

    Thanks.

Oops, sorry I misread the word "stream" as "steam". You can still use Hysys to draw a kind of Mollier diagram at different T & P for whaever mixture of compunds "phase envelope" , it's called "Envelope Utility". Check the user guide of Hysys for how to use this utility, you may even find it in Help. After entering you mixture and selecting the right thermodynamic method go to Utilities then Envelope Utility.

  7. Good, i have find them, thanks mobek.
Can i add the properties of the stream (P,T) to confirm that it is in the dew point curve ?

Absolutely, you can even create different charts with different parameters, T vs. H, Tvs. S, etc. Don't forget to widen the temp. range of the stream and increase the number of chart points from the default 10 to say 40.

    Best of luck.

I advise you to read the hysys user guide; also, try to read more in the PVT/phase equilbria.
