Thread: Difference b/w phase and component in simulation

  1. Difference b/w phase and component in simulation

    Hello
Can any one tell me what is the difference b/w phase and component in reservoir simulation?
    any literature on this?
    Thanks

Phase refers to whether the mixture is liquid/gas/solid

Component refers to a subset of the mixture

For example, your typical hydocarbon mixture consists of many components - methane, ethane, butane etc.... which under certain PVT conditions will be in a gaseous phase. When fitting EOS models, often a number of components are lumped togeather (ie C7+)
