Develop controls/umbilical related philosophies/project specific documents and drawings. Qualify new technologies and subsea hardware for project use. Perform necessary identified studies to support the development and/or understanding of new subsea technologies.
Participate in development and maintenance of companies Subsea Controls standards when appropriately identified.
Perform subsea control technical assessments of vendors proposed product lines to support the maintenance of the Subsea Approved Vendor List.
Liaison with project teams, function teams (e.g. Drilling, Reservoir, Flow Assurance, and Materials), EPC contractors and vendors to ensure controls related equipment is designed, delivered and installed in line with project requirements and objectives.
Participate in design and SHE reviews (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, risk assessments) and verify related risk and reliability issues are closed out.
Interface with companies 3rd party QA/QC to ensure that subsea hardware quality requirements are met. Address control system functionality and optimization to assure project expectations for functionality and operability are met.
Participate in pre-commissioning, system integration testing, installation, and commissioning activities of subsea controls equipment. Participate in troubleshooting equipment problems with vendors, installation contractors, and other company operating affiliates.
Participate in troubleshooting subsea controls related problems with vendors, installation contractors, and other company operating affiliates.
Promote safety in all project aspects of vendor manufacturing assembly, testing, installation, and operations.
Travel, domestic or international, including developing countries.
Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering
Minimum of 10 years subsea controls-related industry experience
You will need working knowledge of mechanical/electrical design, hydraulics, controls, instrumentation, power transmission & distribution, qualification, testing, leadership skills, and interface management.
You will use a variety of skills to excel in this role. Subsea Controls Engineering relies heavily on communication skills, creativity, teamwork, problem solving, and coordination skills. You will need knowledge of control systems, including software, communications methods, and electrical and hydraulic distribution. You should be familiar with API 17E and 17F and relevant ISO standards in subsea controls and umbilicals standards.
