1) ... why every international body(ASTM,ASME,API etc..) make its own material ... i mean ASTM A 106 material......and ASME SA-516 ....... API 5L .....why different standard for materials ...........there should be one body to specify one material .................?


2) Sir plates are used to make Pressure vessel . Plates are rolled to make pipes........ But when we see their materials we see usually SA - 516 for pressure vessel .....and A 106 for piping ......... Cant same plate SA-516 be used for piping.....?

I mean why ASTM for piping and ASME materials for Pressure vessel.....?

ASTM A-516 is used to fabricate welded pipe. ASTM A-671 and 672 specifically list A-516 (and other plate grades) as being acceptable for use in fabricating welded pipes. There are probably another half dozen or more ASTM and API specifications for welded pipe where ASTM A-516 can be used (but is not specifically listed) because of it's mechanical and/or chemical properties.

ASME list many ASTM material specifications as being suitable for the fabricatin of ASME Code pressure vessels. In these cases ASME add an S in front of the ASTM number and add some additional requirements related to quality and documentation. These additional requirements are usually discussed on the first page of the SA (or SB) Specification.
