Thread: mudmat and suction pile

  1. mudmat and suction pile

The foundation of a subsea structure, such as manifold and PLET/PLEM, can be either the mudmat or suction pile.

If there is already a suction pile, does it need a mudmat?

I think a suction pile is enough to prevent a subsea structure from sliding or sinking!

In a word, does a suction pile and a mudmat exist at the same time?

Any body tells me, thanks in advance~

Subsea manifold can be either designed with a mudmat or suction pile, generally according to the conditions of the soils. PLET/PLEM is mostly desinged with a mudmat. I've not seen any PLET with a suction pile on bottom of it. Suction pile is utilized for mooring of PLET subsea unless a 1st end PLET installation method is used.

    Thank you very much!

One more question, what's the mooring of PLET?

When a pipeline is initiated from a pipelay vessel, a PLET (Pipeline End Termination) sled/structure with the pipeline is carefully lowered towards the seabed from a lay vessel and attached to the suction pile with a cable. This holds the pipeline back while the vessel continues laying the pipeline.
