here is what I do in this job.
first you must to complete caesar II anlyze.
hoop stress, displacement ..
with caesar you can have vértical movement ( displacemnt in + y ) , ususually it's less than 0.05 metres.
caluclate the axiale compressive force...
calculate allowable axial stress applying vom mises criteria
and you must ind allowable axial stress < pipeline material yiled stress
fin the imperfection length using an initial imperfection less 0.3 or 0.25 meters
after this calculate Weight of cover required W
calculate weight of soil done at field ,( you have the soil density of of soil and the depth of pipe, and the widh of the dich..
compare the soil required with the weight of sol done at field
weight of soil required / weight of soil = (if the value is more than 1.5 ) then the pipeline is safe..

if the the value = 1 or less , then the pipeline is no safe, you must to put the depth of pipe H more than the first step...
when H is =1.5 meter...and teh diffence temperature in less than 50° C , no buckling...
