    Thank you kimiachem

  10. to all friends,
in fact, i have been engaged in 4-5 SIL study in oil & gas projects. so, although little but i may help. dont hesitate to ask me. send e-mails to me

  11. Some members asked for information about SIL, here is my own experience:

a SIL Study has two main parts. 1. SIL target evaluation and 2. SIL verification.

while SIL verification is performed by an instrumentation team (or a safety team familiar with instrumentation), SIL target evaluation is a pure safety task.

    For SIL target evaluation:

    1. perform HAZOP study
    2. choose risk graph method (this is my prefered one) from IEC-61511
    3. select parameters of the graph according to engineering practice (you can do it with brain storming sessions like HAZOP), and specify target SIL values.

    For SIL verification,

    1. you should have an instrument engineer at hand or have some minimum background of it.
    2. again according to my preference, choose Fault Tree method as in ISA-TR84.00.02-2002
    3. you should have some reliability data at hand, i prefer OREDA.
    3. as the final step you should compare the value obtained here to mach the target values.

for many projects (specially those in the design phase) the SIL target evaluation is satisfactory and the other one is not necessary to perform.

however, this was own experience, i'll become happy if you can give me any more information about SIL.

    regards

  16. SIS register
    Hi kimiachem,

Do you have any sample format for maintaining records for SIS database plantwise?

What i need is a register to have the database of all SIS available in the plant.

    Thanks,

    Sudharsanan
