Thread: MBal Problem

  1. MBal Problem

    Hi,
    I need to define a thin oil rim with rich gas cap for one of my studies.
    For this, I need to define the value of m.(Initial Gas Cap)
    As I define m, and run a prediction, it gives me error "Oil Saturation is less than residual oil saturation"
    As far as i Understand, it is populating gas saturation in oil zone which is not the actual case.

    Ex:
    Connate Water Saturation: 0.24
    Max Hydrocarbon Saturation: 0.76
    m=4 (Initial Gas Cap)
    So,
    Oil Saturation in tank=0.1552(i.e=(1/(1+m))*Max Hydrocarbon Saturation
    Gas Saturation in tank=0.6208(i.e=(m/(1+m))*Max Hydrocarbon Saturation
    Residual Oil Saturation=0.2
    So its giving that error.
    How can I correct it to actual represent gas and oil in different regionsi.e gas cap overlying oil

    Sorry for the long post ...
    Waiting for reply

    Hello
    m is ration GIIP/OIIP for example let say you OIIP equals to 64 m3 and you GIIP is 32 m3 so you m will be 0.5
    for saturation error at any time you need to have following equation
    1= Soil+Sgas+Swater
    where Soil=So+Sor
    Sgas=Sg + Sgr (0)
    SO for you model for oil zone of oil will be 0.76
    Saturation of gas zone for gas will be 0.56

  5. Thank you for reply...actually mbal is populating gas in oil zone i.e.tank. That is main cause of problem...oil and gas should be considered as two different regions and saturations be defined in the respective zones.but Mbal is defining a gas saturation in the tank like gas dispersed with oil.

  9. Hi there, Can anyone suggest me a solution as I am encountering an error named "Error 132,Overflow" in the prediction simulation. I have matched the analytical plot and the history simulation is also matched. the relative permeabilites seems to be acceptable as i USE COREY FUNCTIONS. and the fractional flow for water is also in an accpetable realistc range. the Fg is not poping at all ...but I guess it should not as the pressure in tank does not reaches or falls the bubble point........

    I s there any solution to this problem .....Please let me know as soon as possible as I am living in hell write now.......Thanks
