Thread: Using PHAST 6.54

  1. Using PHAST 6.54

Could any one tell me how to locate a pipeline underground in the Phast software.
Phast 6.54 doesn't allow a depth of less than 0m.
in addition to that, how to make a leak of less than 20% of pipeline area, PHAST 6.54 doesn't allow a percentage of less than 20%

    Thank you so much

  5. I don't have this version of Phast.
But if you wanted to share it with us, maybe someone can help you...
    What do you think?

  6. even for the previous versions, the problem is the same.

anyway this version is shared in this forum

    regards

  7. For burried pipelines, keep the elevation for release scenarion as '0' . this specifies that the release is from ground surface, which is true as all soil above burried pipelines is generally thrown away in case of leak/rupture due to pressure of released material.
To define the leak for less than 20% hole area is possible in two way
1.calculte the hole diameter and specify in the vessel and pipe model with scenario as leak.
    2. Calculate the release rate (kg/sec) based on available formula from CCPS book and use user define model in the PHAST model (preffered option)

I hope i could be help!

For burried pipeline you can also use the down impingement on the ground jet direction to analyze the gas dispersioon effects. In fact your result may be more conservative than vertical or horizontal direction. I usually use this option for small leakages and only to study flash fire consequences

  10. Hi Micu,
Do you know any standard/guidline which indicates the direction of leak, impinging or non impinging leaks to be considered. I have PGS 3 and F P Lees. but they dont cover it.

I don't have any standard but you can see a quantitative risk assessment performed by Bolognna University Chemical Engineering Department (prof. SPADONI) which indicates to consider two jet direction in case of underground accidental releases (ww3.comune.fe.it/prg/psc/approvazione/1_03c_01_sintesi_non_tecnica.pdf). The report is in italian language.

  12. hye guys...anybody can share wit me how to do a cost benefit analysis (CBA) in quantitative risk assessment (QRA). Or any1 got a manual transkrip (fundamental module) for Phast risk financial developed by DNV, can u share wit me?..pls email me at idola_26@yahoo.com.thanks ya...

  16. Re: Using PHAST 6.54

I need to carry out the risk analysis using DNV's Phast Risk Micro 6.54.
The materials to be considered are LIGHT DIESEL OIL (LDO) & HEAVY FUEL OIL (HFO).
I seriously have no idea which material or material mixture to be used out of the given material database in the software.

I have been trying to solve this problem from past 3 days, but its was of no use.
