As a beginner, just want to know the type of flow rate to be taken in to control valve sizing, whether it is a volumetric or mass flow rate.
Thanks in advance...

Hi, control valve sizing involves the calculation of the flow coefficient of the valve (Cv).
Cv is a constant related to the geometry of a valve, for a given travel, that can be used to establish flow capacity. It is the number of U.S. gallons per minute of 60°F water that will flow through a valve with a one pound per square inch pressure drop.
A good book to read is Fisher's control valve handbook, just google it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks azetou!!!
