A basic explanation on Safety and Environment-Critical Elements (SECEs), including definition and a quick guide for identification of the SECEs. Prior to July 2015, HSE UK recognized the term "Safety Critical Element (SCE)" as enshrined in the UK SCR 2005, Reg. 2. Instead, SCR 2015 now features SECE, which more lucidly underscores "Environmental Hazards". (Strictly speaking, the term SECE is more closely linked to installations covered by SCR 2015.)
