Good Evening All,
Firstly, I am completely new to corrosion defect assessments of this sort. My background is in pipeline QAQC welding and NDT. However, I have embarked on a distance learning University Degree, namely (BEng Engineering Management), and have chosen a subject that interests me, Integrity management.
The problem I have ran into is assessing a corrosion defect to the Modified B31G criteria. I have looked for worked out examples but with very limited success. I appreciate there are calculators out there, but I would like to be able to assess them manually first.
I stumbled across the attachment below, which shows details of an assessment to both B31G and the modified version. Furthermore, I have managed to work out the first part using the equations set out in B31G, 1991 with success i.e. obtaining the same results.
My problem arises when I try to work out section 2.0, the Calculation of remaining strength of corroded pipe. Case 2- Modified B31G Criterion – 0.85dL Area.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated from you experts out there, showing me how to obtain the results shown in that section.
Regards Dan
