After graduating I worked my first 2 years with a small company as a reservoir engineer* then the company bought over by another company and with a different approach in reservoir engineering. Two years into working I was laid off. After 13 months looking for a job this week I finally landed a job with a mid size company.

The new boss wanted me to prepare a list of all the published standards and specifications that is governing or commonly used in reservoir engineering. This is so that different reservoir engineers in the same company when approaching a certain task would follow the same international standards.

There are many reservoir engineering textbooks and general guidelines or procedure for doing all kind of reservoir engineering work (management* analysis* simulation…etc). However* many of the reservoir engineering processes or way of doing the work written down in practices were from empirical or past experience or customary practice from each oil company. There are hardly any webpage that listed the established standards from an international accepted organization (e.g. API* SPE* ANSI* ASTM* AAPG..) related to reservoir engineering.

What my boss want is something in reservoir engineering that have a standard or specification for our company reservoir engineering department* I must be able to cite a global recognizable authority like API* ISO number as a reference. He say he want it in 2 day (by Oct 10* 2017). So I need help.

I do not need the complete procedure or manual or step by step process in each reservoir engineering work. All I want to get started is to cite the global standard number (having a designated code like API SPEC 59* API PR 59* AAPG* SPWL* or SPE Publ 123) and the short title description so that I can find more reference from these reference.

There are many processes I can think of that may require some recognized international bodies as a reference to back up or reference to or regulated. However* I cannot really pinpoint. So if you come across some title of the specifications or standard (e.g. from your company you work) where I can reference to please post it here:

Some of the earliest findings I searched thru the internet that may be used in reservoir engineering are:

SEG-Y Society of Exploration Geophysics: Data Exchange Format requirement in seismic data acquisition* processing* and seismic hardware.
SPE 2001 SPE ISBN 978-1-55563-105-5: Guidelines for the Evaluation of Petroleum Reserves and Resources
API Publ 1628C Optimization of Hydrocarbon Recovery
API TR 2573 Standard Guide for Sediment and Water Determination in Crude Oil

Thank you for saving my job. My family don’t want to be hungry again.

Other processes I can think of that can use some standards /regulations for references are:
PVT analysis standardization
Production decline forecast procedure standardization
EOR screening and selection method
Transient well test methods standardization
Reservoir development practice or guideline
Waterflooding or chemical flooding standards
