  1. Tank Design

    Hai friends,
    I am a new designer and i am now designing the the tank i found one of my friend is telling that the bottom course of the tank should have the same thickness as that of annular plate and the the thickness should should be minimum 6mm. but i could see in the API 650 it is written as 5mm as the minimum thickness can anyone help me with your knowledge.

  3. what your friend suggested was correct.. Bottom plate thickness will be same as compared with bottom shell course... refer API650 tenth edition and latest addendum..

    as per api is 5mm minimum thikness and i practically see this , that the first course is 5 mm

    Yes.. Api mentioned 5mm as a min thk.. but that same has mentioned the min. shell course thk s 6mm.. so v shall take bot plate thkness wat u ve calculated as bot. shell course thk calculation.. Note: Bottom plate thk ll be same or greater than bot. shell couse thk..

    annular plate could be thicker than the bottom plate.
    annular plate thickness depends on hydrotest stress and on seismic

    Bottom plate is 5 mm to which you have to add the corrosion allowance.

    If you have a tank design problem or design just send it to me.
    Same for pressure vessels, columns, heat exchangers
