Thread: Hysys vs. Aspen Plus vs. Chemcad for Ammonia & Urea Plants

  1. Hysys vs. Aspen Plus vs. Chemcad for Ammonia & Urea Plants

    Dear Sir,
The three simulators are in competition, which one the best to fit the thermodynamic data, and predict the real time production.
As my goal is to simulate the Ammonia Haldor Topsoe & Snamprogetti Urea Plants, I think SR Polar model is the best for Urea & SRK for Ammonia, what do you think about that?

  3. Maybe Aspen is the best to do it reliably, if you have enough plant data to fit binary parameters etc., but be prepared for a lot of head ache. Its very archaic, with a lot hidden under the hood, which you do not learn in their training courses. I work a lot with Aspen in my work, and even as an expert user, I find it very annoying to work with. Hysis would have been my first choice, but Aspen Tech seems to be targeting the petroleum refining business with it, and when I used it before it was in oil refining.

Chemcad maybe the easiest to work with, but many people still dont seem to trust the answers you get with it. Even though my recent experience with Chemcad has been contrary to that. I see complex chemical processes simulates with both Aspen and Chemcad and Chemcad matching plant data with less work required than was required for Aspen, because working with Aspen is like crawling through a maze, for highly complex processes that requires a lot of property modifications by the user.
