Friction factors for torque and drag analysis

    Hi guys,
Without offset torque and drag data, what kind of friction factors do you use in Landmark wellplan software or equivalent for open hole and cased hole sections with water base mud and oil base mud for preliminary well planning? What parameters do you suggest for added tortuosity to the planned theoretical well path?

    Hello Scipiond

I usually use for open hole section from 0.27 to 0.33, and for cased hole 0.18. These values give me good results. But the best way to have the right values is to calculate the from the drag charts of offset Wells.

Thanks a lot. Agree that deducting friction factors from offset well drag charts is the best way to go, but there are situations in early stage planning where drag charts are not available.
