Pipe Supports Determination

Dear all,
i dont know where to put this problem, and thinking it always done using structural item, so i open the thread at civil side. feel free to relocate the thread if not suitable.

ive been looking for a guide to design a pipe support. as we all know, MSS-69 is the normal guide to design or select a pipe support, mostly for hangers. unfortunately for me the guide is not enough. i would like to have some opinion how most of the piping / civil engineers design the support based on stress analysis results.

1. How to determined the beam / channel selection for the location is appropriate?
2. Any basic calculation on determine the support sizes are adequate?

hope to have some help / ideas on this matter.

before starting calculation and stress use:
1/ -Location of structures, beams, colums ..and try to place your pipe supports there.
2/- There is a specific table in ASME B31.1 (power code) , for GUIDANCE on maximum spans for pipes full of water or full of air..
3/- Think also about maximum stress in pipe, but do not forget to watch out the maximum defelection at mid span ..because you can exacerbate the corrosion if the product is left there and not drained.

4/ Pipe stress is to confirm the rest ; nozzle loads, maximum horizontal deflection, flange loads (= maximum moment to be converted in an equivalent additional pressure...), etc
