Thread: how to calibrate the dynamic model with DST results

  1. how to calibrate the dynamic model with DST results

    hi every body
I have DST data I want to calibrate my model with these DST result,
is it feasible? is it possible to do it on global model or it is applicable only when we are working in single well model?
someone told me that it is not necessary to calibrate it, you have just to match reservoir pressure @ datum
I tried to do it on a nexus model, I did LGR at well location and I reduced the time step but i don't know what to do after
which parameter i should check? how to do this calibration?
is that someone already did this job?
    Please I need your help?
these kinds of things that can not be found on books

reducing timestep means you have high resolution of initial data. Plot the simulation data within initial time equal to DST time, and above it plot DST data, compare both..
check what parameters you need to change in your reservoir (as the DST data you mentioned is for exploratory well or the only well in your reservoir)

Indeed I have the same question.
I've already plot simulation to actual DST profile, and the result is totally different.
My simulation model plot show a less step pressure decline.
The question arise: "Is my model is still valid thus I need to change it or DST history matching can't always be used"?

Watch the video I posted here and I think you will get some answers to your question.

What is happening in the wellbore during from you will not be able to simulate if we are talking about a simulator such as ECLIPSE. The buildup is another story, again watch the video and check your DST data to see how good it is.

Re: how to calibrate the dynamic model with DST results

The wellbore connection factor typically used (Peaceman hydraulic radius etc) was formulated with steady state assumptions. DST's typically have radius of investigation of the similar order to or less than the block sizes being used. The use of fine scale grid and/or appropriately sized LGR's such that they are substantially smaller than the radius of investigation are often required to come close to representing the short term transients of DST's. How small? It depends - you would have to keep fining up until the results you get start to converge.

Having said all of that, calibration of your model using DST data does not necessarily mean you have to model these short term transients. You can simply use the interpreted kH to the primary fluid flow, P* as well as any other interpreted characteristics such as presence of barriers/specific flow geometries etc and ensure they are reflected in your simulation model. Unless modelling well behaviour accurately down to the hour level of granularity is important, this could be considered a fit-for-purpose tuning.
