Thread: Pipe Analysis Calculation Problem - Pipe Schedule

  1. Pipe Analysis Calculation Problem - Pipe Schedule

Anyone out there give me a hand here? This is the first task my company has asked me to do for them.

"Please could you determine pipe schedule for the following arrangement:

4940 level (4940 ft) pipe entry point into No 4 shaft, flow 120 l/s. Assume Sch. 40 pipe.
5900 level (5900 ft) intermediate level with BAC using 60 l/s
6500 level (6500 ft) intermediate level
7500 level (7500 ft) intermediate level
    8500 level (8500ft) bottom level using 60 l/s

Please could you use the ASME B31.3 piping code to specify the pipe schedule changeovers and recommend a pipe support strategy. Assume Victaulic pipe couplings type 77 are used. For 80 Sch and above piping type 808 couplings (double grooved type ) will be used.

Please assume the pump peak pressure bottoms out at 600 kPa. Please do the calculation with and without a water hammer allowance in the design pressure variable."

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks

  3. Re: Pipe Analysis Calculation Problem - Pipe Schedule

It seems you are trying to estimate the pipe wall thickness using only hydraulic data... if so, you won't need the ASME B31.3 at all...

On the other hand, if you want to estimate the minimum pipe wall thickness you will need Design Pressure and Temperature figures... and, by the way, it also seems you are dealing with a pipeline... If so, you have to use ASME B31.4 (for Liquid Pipelines) or ASME B31.8 (for Gas Pipelines).

    As your supervisor for orientation...

    Cheers
