    Capacitance type level switches

    any one can confirm....can we use capacitance type level switches in oil tank, oil is collected from oily water system

    Capacitance depends on permittivity and water is very high (40) while oil and gas is low (around 1 or so). If your probe gets coated with one fluid or the other, it may not be reliable. A float switch is very easy to implement and relies on density difference, which is usually more reliable.
