Reinforcement is needed when you make manual branch on pipelines , and the thickness is usually same of main line thickness with 2 times diameter of branch ,

I mean if you have a pipe with thickness "t" and outside diameter "D" , and you need to make a branch with diameter "d" , thickness of reinforcement pad min must be t with diameter 2*d
