No. Use the help in HTRI and a good book on Heat transfer
say look at my postings in this thread on 07-20-2010

There have previously been asked for a tutorial in the HTRI.

As a matter of facts in the help menu of HTRI one can chose tutorials.. and you have short tutorials in how to enter data in say XIST. This could help one to get family with where and how to enter data for a new case. And also have a look in the supplied examples.
But I still believe a program like HTRI required some basic knowledges about heat exchangers say from good books or from leaning - first then one can understand most of the data the calculation delivers in the reports.. :-)

  10. Hi everybody, my question is:
What is the criterion to establish the design temperature of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger? In the HTRI tutorial for this kind of exchangers, appears as follows:
    For the shell Tin = 25 ⁰C T out = 205 ⁰C T design = 315 ⁰C
    For the tubes Tin = 310 ⁰C T out = 280 ⁰C T design = 325 ⁰C
I suppose the criterion should be consistent with the TEMA standards
Thanks a lot, It's a graet idea to start this thread, especially when one is a beginner... take care

    ....
The Design temperatures and pressure has been given and entered in the input / Geometry / option panel
It is not used in the calculation (take a look in the help by pressing F1 when staying in the temperature felt). I guess it just is entered to be showed it in the TEMA output?

So the user has to chose/calculate these himself.

  12. hi to everybody,

can anyone tells me details about difference bet. RATING & DESIGN OF Heat Exchanger
    if possible with example please
    thanks for all

When using rating you calculate the performance for a single case of heat exchanger where in design mode the HTRI is rating a serial of Heat exchangers within the limits and steps given under the Design inputs. So instead of changes the shell diameter you self in rating mode you may screen a big number of exchangers in the design mode of HTRI.

If you open “Xist_StandardCase_1.htri” in the samples folder and run a Rating calculation.
Then chose Case mode design instead of Rating and go to design input, mark the Shell diameter and set min. to 96, max. to 100 and steps as 9. And run a calculation where the HTRI return the calculation of a shell at 96.5 inch.
Hope this show the use of Design?

If it was Rating vs. Simulation a reply is given on page 10 here

Basic properties(rho, mu, K, Cp) at two reference temperature preferably inlet and outlet
Cleaning requirements on the shell side & method
Cleaning requirements on the tube side & method
    Fouling resistances on both sides
Space avialable at site for installation
    Overdesign % required
    Maximum allowable pressure drop
    Velocity constraints
    Nozzle connection sizes
Material of construction for exchanger parts

    Hope this will do?

  16. can anyone gives me following ( related to HTRI)

what is thermal resistance calculations ?
% underdesign , how to make it overdesign
