If you could also shed some light on things like the competition in the field, whether I should apply for small or large firms, and whether I should apply to a Graduate Mechanical Engineering role in an Oil & Gas company and then try to transition into Reservoir Engineering once I am in the company/apply to other companies whilst I am working? I am grateful if you have managed to read up to this far, and would like to let you know any feedback would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
Recently, I've become fascinated by the role of a Reservoir Engineer. I now wish to become one as soon as possible. However, still I have very limited knowledge of the field. Could you kindly please offer me any guidance as to whether I am wasting my time or I can realistically become one in the next 1-3 years? I am also considering taking up a second MSc course in Petroleum Engineering to help me get my first job in the field. The MSc Petroleum Engineering at Heriot-Watt appeals to me as it can be studied at my own pace and through distance learning. However, since I already am studying an MSc, this would increase my costs significantly and with no guarantee of a job offer at the end of it. If the chances of a job offer are good, then I will strongly consider this option. What would be your advice on this?
Hello. I am contacting people to gather as much information as possible to help me make informed decisions. I have a few questions regarding jobs in Petroleum Engineering, and more specifically Reservoir Engineering. I hope you can take some time to read these and offer me the best advice from your experiences as possible. First a little bit about me: I recently graduated from BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from The University of Manchester in the UK with a grade 2:2. I have now immediately begun MSc Mechanical Engineering Design at the same university. I am currently on-track for a distinction (70% +). Both courses are accredited by IMechE. I have no previous work experience in any engineering firm. Finally, I am a UK citizen (hence able to work anywhere in Europe, however prefer to stay within UK...especially London). (continue next due to limit...)
