  • Questions related to process modeling software

    Hello,

I am a ChemE student. I have few questions. I see there are so many process modeling softwares like Aspen, Aspen Plus, Hysys, Pro II, Unisim etc.

    1. What is the difference between Aspen Plus and Hysys etc? Can a problem be solved in both? Will they give same results?

    2. Why are there so many versions available? Hysys 3.2, 7.3, 8.6? If I have one, does it matter which version I have?

    3. I will graduate in a year. I want to get a job in this field. Where should I start?

    4. Where can I get Chemcad, Unisim etc?

    Thanks a lot!

      Hi.
I dont want to confuse you, but you can always take a second opnion from other colleuges here or elsewhere.
My feedbacks to your queries are:-

      1. What is the difference between Aspen Plus and Hysys etc? Can a problem be solved in both? Will they give same results?
Ans:-According to me and my earlier research, HYSYS is mainly modelled for Oil and Gas rather Hydrocarbon application. whereas, Aspen Plus is parent software of HYSYS and can be used with most of the process engineering application. In Aspen plus, you can customise the behaviour of process (eg. can define the chemical equations, can be used for solids etc.). Though I have not worked on Aspen Plus.

      2. Why are there so many versions available? Hysys 3.2, 7.3, 8.6? If I have one, does it matter which version I have?
Ans:- Any company or product generally get revised based on new technology development, user's feedbacl and experience, resolution of bugs, new products gets added, New Operating System/Hardware/platform are availabe etc. Hence these all revision are issued as when major change are required. Best is to use the most recent version but it does not matter as long as your process is not complecated once.

      3. I will graduate in a year. I want to get a job in this field. Where should I start?
Ans:- You should be specific. "In this field" does not give a correct picture. My suggestion to you is to try for Hydrocarbon Industry (Oil and Gas and Refinery, HC processing field), as these are one of the most respectfull as well as high paid fields. Mainly try to join Engineering Consultancy or big EPC Contractor (Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractors). Some International names are (A) Bechtel (B) Flour (C) CB&I (D) PETROFAC (F) AKER Solutions (G) JACOBS (H) GS Engineering (I) HYUNDAI (J) CHYODA Corporation etc. etc. But do not go for operators as there your learning and technical development skills may get under utilized. I mean to say that, whenever you are in Design Engineering filed, you can try many option and can alway optimize the things as they remain on paper until constructed. When there is a live plant, you need to just see the performance, troubleshoot the operations etc. Also, do not join the company who only provide simulations to Engineering consultant and EPC Contractor, as there is always advantegrious to join an EPC Contractor where you can see the entire phase ofthe project right from Engineering, proceurement, construction and installation unline in consultacy and plant operators.

      4. Where can I get Chemcad, Unisim etc?
Ans:- I too searching for the same. Please share me if you find thes... please inform me on rkansari@gmail.com

Getting a domain fame of our own is an essential percentage of owning a charge online. Even so, nowadays most of the popular domain names are either already registered or owned on some other business. This means that you for to think up of creative realm names to get noticed on the internet. This can every now be a challenging fixation to do. Even so, the fulgent side to this is that most of the ******* names that were already registered could be undergoing expired. It could be because the train may contain closed down or the
