The Occupational Hygiene SME is responsible for providing functional leadership and expert advice on occupational hygiene and health risk management to support the HSE strategy (Journey to Zero Harm) through provision of specialist advice, assessment, training and intervention activities to global audiences across the organization.

In addition to the defined responsibilities you will also deliver and facilitate advanced risk assessment. You will be rained as a lead auditor responsible for providing assurance against standards globally as well as to lead investigator standard. You will also be responsible for establishing/maintaining a network of SME champions (fellow SME’s, Accountable / Responsible persons) supported by regular communications.

Key accountabilities:

- Support the organisation in maximising employee health and productivity through the management of occupational exposures and prevention of occupational ill health.
- Develop and support the implementation of health risk management initiatives and improvement programmes aimed at reducing risk to health.
- Work with the project and design community to promote health through design by eliminating health risks at the design stage.
- Develop and maintain occupational health risk assessment tools and resources.
- Maintain a review of any regulatory or professional changes which may impact the HSE standards and support updating of standards and any associated improvement programmes required as a result.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to engage and communicate with leadership, employees and their representatives to promote the benefits of health risk management and its alignment to Journey to Zero Harm.
- Represent the organisation on occupational hygiene related matters with national and international regulators, professional bodies, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.


- Advanced analytical skills.
- Coaching ability to help others achieve improvement in performance.
- Educated to degree level in a scientific discipline with a recognised post-graduate occupational hygiene qualification or equivalent professional qualification.
- Candidates shall have certification from, or be a chartered member of, an international hygiene body, such as the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) or the American Board of Industrial Hygienists (ABIH)M
- Experience of managing outsourced occupational hygiene provision desirable.
- Experience of working in a manufacturing environment or similar (oil, gas, chemicals).
