Thread: [exciter saturation model]PSSE data over to ETAP issue

  1. [exciter saturation model]PSSE data over to ETAP issue

    Hello all *

    from my limited knowledge of exciter models
    PSSE exciter saturation is like this for example*

    E1= ~2.3
    SE1= ~0.2
    E2= ~ 3.1
    SE2= ~1.01

    Now here's the kicker* ETAP has

    SEmax =?
    SE.75 =?
    Efdmax=?

    Does anyone know the correct transfer?

    P.S
    on a side note* for those of you Using both PSSE and ETAP.
    the 2 simulation software have so many of the same data represented in different ways (is this on purpose?! )
    have searched on the internet with no results* might open new thread for discussion

    Hi*

    In my opinion* PSS/E works well for positive sequence dynamic simulation. The data entries here usually follows standards and conventions (e.g. d-q axis leading/lagging parameter* S(1.0)* S(1.2). For saturation models the typical data being entered are based on 1.0 p.u. Efd and 1.2 p.u. Efd. You can find these fact in most lectures on power system stability lectures such as those of Kundur* Overbye* Anderson* etc. ETAP maybe has some special computing algorithms used that's why they use Efdmax and 0.75Efd instead of those mentioned above.

    The two software platforms in fact has the same output when a dynamic simulation of a sample system is carried out. The only advantage of PSS/E is that this software is a benchmark for dynamic simulation process utilizing robust numerical integration algorithm developed in Fortran as well as it offers easy data entry (.raw* ucte* IEEE common format)* import* and exchange to any other PSDS software platforms (e.g. PSLF* PowerWorld* DigSIlent).

    For transient analysis* what will be the minimum data we require?

    Different software ise asking slightly a different data but the basic should be the same.

    The software usually provides range of values for every parameter needed in the exciter model. Some engineers I personally know suggests that this is a matter of tuning. They can even create user models for any power system dynamic simulation just to fit the need in a study.

    You will know if the parameter you entered is correct after tuning when you run it and displayed a stable response at flat run simulation.

    I just got telephone support from ETAP

    SEmax(ETAP)=SE2(PSSE)
    EFDmax(ETAP) = E2 (PSSE)

    SE.75(ETAP)= SE1(PSSE)

    (not represented in ETAP but should be E2 x 0.75 ) = E1(PSSE)

    Thanks!
