Thread: Heat Exchanger Flushing

  1. Heat Exchanger Flushing

    Dear All,
We have some set of exchangers in which we found some corrosion-rusting inside drain nozzles so possibly there could be on inside surface of shells. Shells are in Carbon Steel and Bundle is In Copper Alloys.

Any suggestions on removing this rust. I am thinking to have flushing these exchangers so that the rust will be removed.
But I am not aware what we should use as flushing medium, which additives shall be added?

    Your suggestions please.

    Hi,

I dont know whether flushing HE will be effective since you need to drain liquid at shell and tube which means takes time and man power.
Better try to evaluate HE performace if the performance low then you may advise to clean HE and conduct inspection with stationary engineer.
Try to do hydrotest at HE and if the result is meet suitable (1.3 x design pressure) then the material still in good condition.
