what steps? only one unit operation called distillation.

simply go to Youtube and type crude distillation and you'll find tonnes of videos that show/explain the distillation process.

In refinery there would be primary processing and secondary processing.
Primary processing units consists of crude oil separations into its fractions using atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit then reducing sulfur, nitrogens and aromatics contents of its fractions using hydrotreating units.
Secondary processing units aims is to upgrade the quality and the quantity of crude oil's fractions for better and more fuels products. Secondary processing might consists of thermal *****ing units, catalytic *****ing units, hydro *****ing units, isomerization units, coking units etc etc
