    Suggestions of a fluid package

Hi everyone! This is my first post and I found this forum to be extremely helpful and useful! =)

I am running a simulation on Aspen HYSYS for the following components: MIBK, MEK, Allyl alcohol, Methanol, Ethanol, 1-butanol and isobutane

What fluid packages would you all suggest? So far I can't even find isobutane on the components list...I just took it as n-butane

I did a quick check of the phase for the components and found that everything listed above are liquids while 1-butanol and isobutane are gases.

My initial thought would be to use PR for the gases and something else for the other components...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Keep up with the good work of the forum =)

    Hello!
I suggest to use NRTL for fluid package. Check if all the binary are present. You can try to search 2-methyl propane (isobutane)
    Good luck!

Hi sniperel, how would I check if BIP's are present? Would Aspen HYSYS do it for me automatically? I clicked on NRTL and UNIQUAC which gave me the green light, I suppose it suggests that BIP's are present? I've also searched for 2-methyl-propane and that's also not on the components list...such a shame...

Re: Suggestions of a fluid package

    Hi everyone,

    I need your quick help.

Presently I am trying to simulate the Methanol scrubbing system using water where Vapour containing methanol is to be scrubbed by water using Aspen Hysys v8.6.
I am not sure which fluid property package is to be used.

I have a specific problem where a Crude methanol having 70 mol% of methanol at 119 deg F and 80 PSIA is flowing through a control valve. Downstream pressure is 15 PSIA.
Initially I have considered RKS-BM package. Here after Control valve 0.52 mol% of total Crude is flashing.
To verify this value I have used NRTL-UNIFAC VLE model.
To my surprise after the control valve no flashing has been there.

So my query is which model is to be used to predict if there is any flashing of vapour?

Also this vapour if any is needed to be scrubbed by water in downstream.
Since there is a Methanol (vapour) and Water (liquid) interaction, I am not confident which model to be used to design the scrubber.

Could you please suggest on that?
