I heard a lot about Shell MESC standard but found little information on how to implement the system on the web.
I'm a CMMS implementer and my clients want to use MESC standard to number their inventory items. My intention is to develop a function in CMMS software to enable the end-user to create a new item by assigning the item with an appropriate class or group, then entering technical specs. Based on that the software will generate an item code that follows MESC standard. Can this be done?
I don't mind if my company has to purchase the standards or library from Shell. It just that, I don't know what do I need to purchase.
Are there MESC training classes available so that engineers after attending the classes can start assigning MESC code to new or existing items? Even after attending classes (providing those are available) will the engineers need to have some kind of reference books or standard to look up whenever they assigning item code?
