FEM is primarily for structural/mechanical solids... CFD is for energy or transport phenomena... basic CFD generally start with FVM, but commercial software like Ansys uses a finite volume method based on elements.

If you are planning on working as a process eng.. I'd recommend CFD, if you rather work on equipment or piping, then chose FEM.
