This evaluation explores the most influencing parameters regarding catalyst selection for sulfur recovery units
Keywords:
In the processing of sour natural gas, the conversion of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) into elemental sulfur is often done by a modified Claus unit. As hydrocarbon processing facilities use increasingly more sour (high sulfur concentration) feedstocks, the Claus units must process larger quantities of H2S. The most important influencing parameters impacting acid-gas management is selecting the proper catalysts for the Claus sulfur recovery unit (SRU). For Claus catalyst, pore size and pore size distribution, shape, bulk density, mechanical strength and attrition resistance of the catalyst particles are critical parameters to be considered. New developments in catalyst technologies provide improvements for sulfur recovery.
