Thread: Need help for using material balance to calculate the pressure

  1. Need help for using material balance to calculate the pressure

    Hi,

I need some help to calculate the pressure if you are given the oil in place, production data and pvt data. I want to calculate back the pressure and compared it with the pressure that we obtain from measuring device. Is there anyway to calculate it ? Im using the exercise 3.4 in the Fundamentals reservoir Engineering as an example. If i give then N = 110 MMstb and m = 0.4. How could I calculate the pressure and compared it to the observed one. This is the PVT data:

If you know, could you please perform the calculations to demonstrate it for me. Thanks

You will need to do something called "history matching". "history" implies you have data over time, in this case I assume production data. So the trick will be to put your know data into, lets say, a spreadsheet able to do material balance calculations. It is important to understand the assumptions of Material Balance. The main one is that you have a 1-D problem, a tank. This tank has oil/gas at some intial reservoir pressure, porosity, homogeneous etc. which is then produced with time. As this happens the pressure will start to drop and if there is an aquifer, it will begin to move in. So you need to adjust parameters such that your production data matches as best as possible the production trend in the MB spreadsheet.

Pressures need to be at a common datum point !!!!!

I would suggest that you read about this first because it is simple to throw numbers IN but the OUTPUT will be ?????. Hope you understand what I mean.
