SIL LOPA requirement

Hello all,

Could you please identify the differences between SIL LOPA versus HAZOP review? Which one should come first and how they support each other?

Hi

Usually the HAZOP is conducted first in order to document all the potential cause and effects of any failures of the process.

The SIL procedure is then used with the HAZOP to assess the requirements for Safety Integrated Controls, based on the consequences, demand rate, likelihood of event and the W factor.

The LOPA would then usually follow on from the SIL determination in order to reduce further the SIL level where required.
