I am curious as to which Coordinate Systems are used in various countries. I know that UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) zones based on the WGS84 Ellipsoid is popular recently because of GPS Devices and Smart Phones but that is best if you are aligned on a 6 degree longitude boundary and in Northern or Southern hemisphere exclusively. Also it is best for North to South oriented projects.

But in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Iran, Turkey what are the preferred systems. What are the government standards.

Are EPSG codes known or used? Are Datum Shifts a problem?
