Windows 8 is not yet available for sale, but the RTM (Release to Manufacturer) version is now available for testing. Prices will vary and there are posts that indicate cheap (~$40) upgrades will be available for Windows 7 users and possibly also for earlier Windows versions. If you are considering this upgrade for a desktop for work, may I suggest that you take a look at the reviews of Windows 8, before considering the change. Windows 8 was developed for tablets and will not be productive on a desktop for people, who have been accustomed to Windows 7 and earlier systems such as Windows XP and Vista. If you are not yet using Windows 7, that would be your best choice for a desktop and if you already have Windows 7 stick with it. I understand that Windows 8 will be released late October and the full price will be $199.
