Thread: Phast toxicity study

  1. Phast toxicity study

    Hello,

I am modelling a toxicity study in Phast 6.53. Can someone tell me the best way to account for a H2S ppm concentration in a natural gas pipeline leak? I see nowhere in the program to enter the H2S concentration.

    Replies would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Dear Swilson,
You have two options to calculate the problem:
1-utilize other modeling tools that H2S is available to mix with other components.
2-if you must use the PHAST, you can substitute the H2S with another component(s) which its molecular weight is around 34.08g/mol (say Ethane and a little Propane) and then you have to find the related dispersion concentration in PPM according to H2S ERPGs same as follows:
    ERPG-1=0.1ppm
    ERPG-2=30ppm
    ERPG-3=100ppm
    Regards

    Swilson

hope I understood well your question: with PHAST you have the chance to either select H2S from the internal database as pure substance (maybe you'll find it as 'hydrogen sulphide') or you can create your own mixture of natural gas (say methane) + H2S, in the proportion as indicate by the H&MB for the pipeline

    regards

    yes swilson u r right
There are two options in study window which u can model selected compound from the mixture to calculate toxic dispersion
