    Thanks for helping.

clause 5.9.6 for the required section modulus and some other requirements for top wind girder.
    this is not my question

i am asking the factor which decide the necessity of wind girder

    1) for every tank we must provide top wind girder?
    2) is tr any other factor which decide the necessity of wind girder in api 650 tanks?
    3) is tr any height factor above which me wust provide top windgirder?

  2. Looks like you did not read the reply carefully.

As I said, all OPEN TOP TANKS require top wind girder, regardless of height and thickness. Open top tanks are those without a fixed roof.

Other tanks which have a fixed roof, do not require top wind girder. But these type of tanks must have a TOP ANGLE.

    Cheers,

selection criteria for curb angle for fixed roof tank

hi every one its my first time......
my question is whats the criteria for selecting the curb angle/top angle?
for example my tank is 13m, so the minimum requirement for curb angle will be 2*2*1/4.so my question is should i straight away select this one or can go for 3*3*1/4 given that this new angle maintains the tank frangibilty

    help!!!!

I'm not quite following what your question is. Looks like the answer is in your question. 2x2x1/4 is the minimum required size. You can go with any larger sizes if you need.

As addressed in API 650 Clause 5.1.5.9 (e) the designer may use other sizes if he/she designs the tanks with frangible roofs, tanks with self supporting roofs, tanks to appendix F, etc.

But note that if the roof is to be frangible, it is not desirable to go with larger and stronger top angle. See 5.10.2.6 items a.5, b.2, c.1.
