btw. the genius lacking social skills is a common stereotype used by "normal" people in order to feel better about themselves "hey at least i am social and also i am not that dumb look how many buckets i can count". a similar one is the "better poor and healthy than rich and sick"(lol this is really a nice one). in the end no one would like to see a movie where his ego is hurt so movies like the one you posted will have popularity. among geniuses like among idiots there are people with a good or with a not so good life/social/empathizing/whatever skills set but this doesn't relate with intelligence. what is indeed common is the dunning-krueger where one(dumb) overestimates his intelligence or the opposite where one(smart) underestimates his but imo this is also an effect of the environment.

but if you watch a movie like that i get to keep my "hmmm..."

So I assume most re-sellers live on the peak of Mt Stupid !!!


Interestingly the Dunning–Kruger effect was formulated in 1999 yet Dunning and Kruger there are earlier observations along similar lines by philosophers and scientists; including Confucius ("Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance");
Bertrand Russell ("One of the painful things about our time is that those who feel certainty are stupid; and those with any imagination and understanding are filled with doubt and indecision");
Charles Bukowski ("The problem with the world is that intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence");
Charles Darwin whom they quoted in their original paper ("Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge").
Shakespeare expressed a similar observation in As You Like It ("The fool doth think he is wise; but the wise man knows himself to be a fool"
