a basic question about oil and gas transport.

when my seperior ask me, why we separate oil and gas before transport it to onshore? why dont we just export it in a single line?
how can i find the most correct answer.

I guess, it will be a slug flow.. which will cause erosion-corrosion of the pipeline. and hence transportation will be difficult and expensive.
