There are three methods of initialization:
1. Equilibration: initialization under Capillary-Gravity Equilibrium. This is the preferred/recommended method.
2. Enumeration: user-specified initial gridblock pressures and saturations. Might lead frequently to non-equilibrium related issues/problems. It's sometimes used in large simulations involving very long historical data as a short-cut to reduce simulation times.
3. Restart: run models which start from previous simulation results.
I forgot to mention the "dynamic initialization" which is used whenever tilted fluid contacts are present in the reservoir due to hydrodynamics. Some approaches to do this include 1) using pseudo injectors and pseudo producers in the updip and downdip structural positions and 2) using analytical aquifers and set a pressure gradient across the grid. Several years (or decades) are then simulated to reach a dynamically stable condition.

Thanks for your reply. Pl elaborate dynamic initialization in details.
