    Hello,

As an engineer aspiring to be a designer, the basic thing that you should do is to read. Read a lot! Make it a habit, a past time. Afterwards, experience will follow. Site visits, Ocular inspections. Engage on hands - on activities. These will further develop your knowledge on the actual concepts of design instead of focusing only in theories. It takes a lot of years & experience to know what you want to know. Learn things one at a time, do not hasten things up. Be precise, learn what matters to you most or what you really need to do your job. Remember, you cannot learn everything in a short period of time just focus first on what you love most then everything will follow. Hope this helps!
