  1. Introducing myself and looking for some advice

    Hello to everybody,

Firstly I'd like to introduce myself and to say what a great resource this site is.

I'm Gerry Schofield and I reside in Houston TX. I've been a Safety Engineer working in the defence aerospace industry for 20+ years and I'm looking to move into the Oil & Gas industry. I've applied for a few positions but it seems that my lack of a background in the O&G industry is a hinderance. Even with my extensive experience in the analysis of complex systems such as fly-by-wire computer controlled flight systems, gas turbine propulsion and safety critical avionics and software, I don't seem to be a suitable candidate. If any of the members can offer some guidance or advice on tapping into the O&G safety industry I would be grateful.

And if any of the members need any advice or help with Safety Cases, Functional Safety, Integrity Levels, FTA etc etc, then please get in touch. I also have a few pulbications relating to the safety assessment of complex systems and safety analysis of airborne equipment (ARP4761 and ARP4754) if anyone needs them. While I understand that they are not directly related to O&G, they do offer excellent guidance on evaluating safety related and safety critical equipment and systems.

Looking forward to hearing from the fellow members

    Best Regards

    Gerry
