Standard Codes per region
Hi all,
I was wondering what are the codes preferably used in the different world regions for the design of fixed offshore structures. I work in Europe and we see a mix between API/ISO/NORSOK depending on the company that is designing.
I would like know in other parts of the world what companies choose to use the most, let's say in South America or South East Asia what are the main codes used.
Thank you.
Re: Standard Codes per region
Dear Djunt,
Nice idea.
What I am aware is that mostly offshore structures, submerged wellheads and pipelines are designed for oil and gas operations and organizations like API and companies like BP, Shell, etc have formulated relevant standards. These standards come under intense scrutiny every time a serious accident happens, e.g. the recent Macondo Well.
My suggestion is that you can make a comparison table mentioning the Company, type of Standard, Area of Application, year, etc. I will add wherever I can and other members can join in.

Re: Standard Codes per region
Hi Sajid,
My question was more towards the design of steel jackets.
I have worked in projects, where Technip designing for the Danish sector used ISO19902, Aker designing for Norwegian sector were using NORSOK N-004, and other where McDermott designing for Mexico used the NRF-003, national code developed by Pemex which is based in API RP 2A.
So I was wondering for example in Venezuela, which codes are used? It is mainly API RP 2A, or other codes have been introduced? And in Malaysia? China? The jackets designed for the Persian Gulf?
Thank you.
